Marking the 77th birth anniversary of late music maestro Azad Rahaman, who was a celebrated music composer, director, lyricist, vocalist and mentor in Bangladesh, a website featuring the life and work of the legend will be launched today, said a press release.
Azad Rahaman was immensely revered by a multitude of cultural connoisseurs and musical followers at home and abroad. He was an accomplished classical musician and a pioneer in popularising Hindustani Classical Music in the Bangla language, referred to as ‘BanglaKheyal’. This music maestro passed away on May 16, 2020.
To mark his 77th birth anniversary (1st January), Maestro’s three daughters Rumana Azad, Rozana Azad and Nafisa Azad built a website on his work and life. This website, which is a tribute to the enduring memory of late maestro Azad Rahaman, contains information on his life, his contribution to different sectors of musical arena and recollection of memories by cultural personalities.
Singer Selina Azad, wife of Azad Rahaman and Chairman of ‘Shongskriti Kendro’, will be inaugurating the website on an online platform in the presence of eminent classical vocalists and researchers Pandit Amaresh Roy Chowdhury (Classical Vocalist from Bangladesh), Dr. Pradip Kumar Ghosh (researcher and musicologist from India), Professor Kaberi Kar (former Professor Rabindrabharati University), Dr Leena Taposhi Khan (Music Department, Dhaka University), Dr Asit Roy (Music Department, Rajshahi University) and Sheikh Sadi Khan (Music Director & Convenor of Music Composers’ Association of Bangladesh), among others.
The website (www.azadrahaman.com) will be accessible for all from January 2, 2021.
