Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan returned from the US on Sunday.
The all-rounder, who is expected to make his return to international cricket with the West Indies series starting from January 20, said his comeback would not be easy.
Earlier, Shakib had skipped the final of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup to see his ailing father-in-law Momtaz Ahmed.
However, Momtaz had breathed his last before the all-rounder arrived in the US.
The Bangabandhu T20 Cup was Shakib’s first competitive cricket event after completing a two-year-ban with one-year suspension imposed by the ICC.
The southpaw failed to impress in the competition, posting just 110 runs and bagging six wickets in nine games.
“I want to replicate my old form, but it will not be easy. Everything will be clear as soon as I start playing for Bangladesh,” Shakib told the media.
Shakib will start training after the Bangladesh Cricket Board announces the squad for the national side’s first home series after a Covid-19 hiatus.
West Indies have already announced their team for the ODI and Test series. Both the teams are missing at least 12 regular players who withdrew from this series citing Covid-19 precaution.
Given the team the West Indies have announced, it will be disappointing if we cannot win the series, Shakib said.
The series will start on January 20 with the first ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium while the second match of the series will be played at the same venue on January 22.
The third ODI and the first Test will be played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on January 25 and February 3-7, and the final Test will take place in Dhaka from February 11.
Before returning to Dhaka, Shakib and his wife Ummey Ahmed Shishir announced that they were going to be parents of a third child. The couple has already been blessed with two daughters.UNB
