John Wilbert and Savita Kumari, Port Blair: Ten fishermen were arrested by Myanmar Coast Guard from North Andaman region on 10th April 2021. Out of these 10 fishermen four fishermen were from Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
On Thursday these 10 fishermen have finally reached New Delhi and when journalists contacted these fishermen, they revealed that two fishermen of Andaman were shot by Myanmar Coast Guard on the day of their arrest. One fisherman was shot on his waist whereas the other fisherman suffered bullet injuries on his right hand.
Most importantly, according to the fishermen they were not given proper treatment in Myanmar and were not even given sufficient food.
According to fishermen for initial three months food is given only twice a day while for rest three months they were given food three times a day in jail but the food was grossly insufficient.
They said that even injured fishermen, who were shot by Myanmar Coast Guard, were not even given proper treatment in Jail. They said that on the day of arrest all their belongings and the parts of their fishing boat were stolen. News courtesy Andaman Sheekha
