The body will be handed over to BGB on Wednesday afternoon, says a BGB official
Dulal Abdullah, Rajshahi: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has gunned down a Bangladeshi national on the Indian side of the Bagichapara border in Chapainawabganj’s Shibganj upazila.
Ibrahim Ali, 25, a resident of the upazila’s Shahbazpur union, was killed on Tuesday night, confirmed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 59 Battalion chief Lieutenant Colonel Amir Hossain Mollah.
The youth was taken to a hospital on the Indian side where he died while undergoing treatment.
Amir Hossain added that the BSF would hand over the body on Wednesday afternoon.
Border killings have continued despite repeated assurances from the Indian that the number would be brought down to zero.
The year 2020 saw the highest number of killings of Bangladesh nationals along the border by the Indian border force in the last 10 years.
Between January 1 and December 16 that year, at least 45 Bangladesh citizens were either shot dead or tortured to death by the BSF in the border areas across the country.
