Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Monday said those, who do not observe the historical March 7, do not believe in the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.
“An unarmed nation had been turned into an armed one through the March 7 speech of the Greatest Bangalee of all time Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It is a remarkable speech of history. And now, a question arises as to how much they believe in the independence and sovereignty of the country those who don’t accept the March 7,” he said.
The minister told the reporters after paying rich tribute to the portrait of Bangabandhu in city’s Dhanmandi-32 marking the historical March 7, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
Hasan said the BNP and its collaborators do not observe the March 7. The anti-liberation forces are still hatching conspiracies against the country from home and abroad, he added.
Urging all to remain alert against all conspiracies, the minister said the BNP is observing another day instead of March 7 and it proves that in fact they do not believe in the spirit of the Liberation War.
Later, the minister addressed a discussion and exhibition of a documentary and cultural function organised by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry marking the March 7 at the auditorium of Tathya Bhaban in city’s Kakrail.
In his speech, Hasan said in fact, Bangabandhu declared the independence of Bangladesh in the speech. But there was nothing to do by Pakistani rulers, he added.
He said the speech shows a path to all freedom-loving people of the world. For such many reasons, the March 7 speech, the world documentary heritage, is a pride of the nation, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
The minister extended his gratitude to those who captured the historical speech.
Bangladesh University of Professional’s Bangabandhu Chair Professor Dr Syed Anowar Hossain addressed the discussion as the keynote speaker with additional secretary of the ministry Md Mizan-ul-Alam in the chair.
Bangladesh Press Institute Director General Zafar Wazed and Principal Information Officer Shahenur Mia addressed the discussion as discussants while Department of Films and Publications SM Golam Kibria gave welcome address.
Ekushey Padak winner Amzad Ali, one of the persons who captured the March 7 speech, and senior officials of the ministry were present.
