Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh will host International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), most prestigious computing contest in the world for first time in November this year.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak briefed about the ICPC at a press conference at his office on Tuesday. ICPC Foundation President Dr Bill Poucher was also present on the occasion.
Some 150 teams from 75 countries are scheduled to contest at the 45th edition of the event at International Convention City Bashundhara from November 6 – 11.
Late national Prof Dr Jamilur Reza Chowdhury initiated the process to bring ICPC world finals to Dhaka during his leadership at University of Asia Pacific.
Bangladesh is the 4th country in Asia after China, Japan and Thailand to have the honour to host this event, according to the organiser.
ICPC is one of the most prestigious and reputable international competitions for computer programmers initiated by United State-based Baylor University.
ICT Division organises the event in association with ICPC Foundation while University of Asia Pacific (UAP) and Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) are partners.
Senior Secretary Zeaul Alam, ICPC Foundation President Dr Bill Poucher and UAP Vice Chancellor Prof Qumrul Ahsan were also present at the press briefing.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the purpose of the young generation is to create themselves as problem solvers and not as problem makers.
“Our next goal is to build a knowledge-based, innovative Bangladesh. Different programs are being taken and implemented at the initiative of the ICT Division including the establishment of 300 schools of future, Sheikh Russel Digital Lab in the country to build a technology-based, knowledge-rich generation,” he said.
ICPC Foundation President Dr Bill Poucher the international competition contributes for development of the young generation to shape the future of technology.
BCC Executive Director Dr Abdul Mannan and ICPC Deputy Executive Director Dr Jeff Donahoo were also present on the occasion.
