Sports News Desk: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Friday announced squad for the T20 and ODI series against Zimbabwe. Nurul Hasan Shohan will lead the team in the shortest format of the game as the board decided to rest T20 skipper Mahmudullah Riyad.
BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon had recently said that the board would discuss the T20 captaincy with Mahmudullah. In an interview with Cricbuzz, team director Khaled Mahmud mentioned that the management was not very happy with the captaincy of Mahmudullah.
The BCB honchos sat with Mahmudullah in a city hotel on July 22 and later disclosed the decision to rest their regular T20I skipper, according to Cricbuzz.
”We have decided that Nurul Hasan will lead the side in the upcoming T20Is,” Khaled told reporters after the meeting. “It is not that Sohan will lead the team in the World Cup. We felt the T20 squad should make a new start as they are not performing well and we want the new guys to express them,” he said.
Along with Mahmudullah, experienced keeper-bat Mushfiqur Rahim too has not made the T20I squad although both of them are included for the three-match ODI series that follows the T20Is. Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has opted to skip the Zimbabwe tour but Cricbuzz understands he may take over captaincy duties in the shortest format in the upcoming Asia Cup.
Meanwhile, Hasan Mahmud was also included for the ODIs while Ebadot Hossain failed to keep his place.
