Artists from Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia have celebrated cultural diversity in an international group art exhibition under way at the Zainul Gallery of fine arts faculty of Dhaka University.
The four-day exhibition titled Harmony Unbounded is featuring 35 artworks comprising paintings, digital artworks, sculptures, photographs, prints, crafts and videos created by 24 artists.
It has been curated by Md Harun ar Rashid Tutul and organised by the graphic design department of the FFA, DU as part of a collaboration between the DU, Universiti Teknologi MARA in Malaysia and Bandung Institute of Indonesian Arts and Culture.
Malaysian artist Aznan Omar’s aluminium sculpture titled Pisang and Stoking shows a hand of bananas.
An acrylic on canvas painting titled Work In Progress by Malaysian artist Siti Humaini Bt Said Ahmad shows painting materials, including colours, brushes and others.
Indonesian artist Mohammad Zaini Alif’s print titled Daluang and Letters shows Javanese script, which is one of Indonesia’s traditional scripts developed on the island of Java.
A clay sculpture titled Punakwan by Indonesian artist Gustiyan Rachmadi shows four popular Javanese mythical characters, namely Semar, Petruk, Gareng and Bagong.
Bangladeshi artist Md Maksudur Rahman’s acrylic on canvas work titled Jolbas 1 shows boats plying a river.
Bangladeshi artist Md Shafiqul Islam’s watercolour work titled My Native Village 1 shows the beauty of rural areas of Bangladesh.
‘The exhibition will create a platform for visual artists from these institutions to express their traditions and engage in cross-cultural engagement through visual arts. It signifies not just an art exhibition but also the beginning of a harmonious relationship between the people of Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia,’ said Md Harun ar Rashid Tutul.
‘We aim to showcase the strength of celebrating diversity and exchanging ideas, fostering connections that contribute to the excellence of society,’ he added.
The exhibition, which was inaugurated on November 2, will end on Sunday.
