Sports Desk:The International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended Sri Lanka’s cricket board Friday, saying it had failed to ensure there was no government interference in its affairs.
The ICC found that Sri Lanka Cricket was “in serious breach of its obligations”. The indefinite suspension came a day after Sri Lanka’s parliament asked the board to resign over allegations of financial corruption.
According to the statement, “The ICC Board met today and determined that Sri Lanka Cricket is in serious breach of its obligations as a Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka”. “The conditions of the suspension will be decided by the ICC Board in due course”, it said.
