Jamaat also calls 48-hour hartal

After the BNP’s announcement, Jamaat-e-Islami has called a 48-hour countrywide hartal including the day of election to drum up support in favour of the non-cooperation movement and boycotting the January 7 election.

The countrywide hartal will begin from 6:00 am on January 6 (Saturday) and end at 6:00 am on January 8 (Monday).

Acting Secretary General of the party Maulana ATM Masum made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.

Earlier the day, the BNP announced a 48-hour hartal from Saturday morning in protest of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) polls.

The party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement at a virtual press briefing.
