Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Rear Admiral Mohammad Shaheen Iqbal has been appointed as the new Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) on Saturday.
His appointment will come into effect on July 25 afternoon when he will be promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Defence on Saturday.
Rear Admiral Shaheen will hold the office for three years, says the notification.
Shaheen Iqbal will replace the incumbent Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury, who is scheduled to go into retirement on July 25 this year.
According to the website of Bangladesh Navy, Rear Admiral Shaheen Iqbal joined the Bangladesh Navy as an officer cadet in 1980. He worked his way through Bangladesh Naval Academy and was commissioned in the Executive Branch on December 1, 1982.
