Andaman and Nicobar: Sea trials of MV Nalanda to begin from 24 February 2022 onwards- DSS

John Wilbert & Savita Kumari, Port Blair: Here is a good news for people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. According to the Director of Shipping Services MV Nalanda, a 500 capacity passenger and cargo vessel, which is presently under construction at Cochin Shipyard, is now ready for its sea trials.

Ageing fleet ships for the Inter-Island sector is a major concern for the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands as throughout the year most of these ships remain out of service either for Annual Survey or for other repair works.

After the arrival of MV Sindhu, the Shipping Services faced some teething problems in sailing of the ship but now as the ship is more or less fit and serving the Islands. Bringing further relief, now it seems MV Nalanda is also getting ready for Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Director of Shipping Services Mr. Ashutosh Pandey today told Andaman Sheekha Daily that from 24th February 2022 onwards sea trial of MV Nalanda will start at Cochin.

“If everything goes well during trials and the trials are successful then by mid-March 2022, MV Nalanda will be officially handed over to Andaman & Nicobar Administration,” he added. News courtesy: Andaman Sheekha
