Bangladesh News Desk: Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed, who is visiting South Sudan, directed all Bangladeshi peacekeepers to work utmost professionalism and relentlessly to uphold the country’s reputation on foreign soil.
He made the call during his recent visit to the all the Bangladesh contingents deployed in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and UNMISS Force Headquarters.
Chief of Army Staff visited Bangladesh Engineer Construction Company (BANCEC) -21 and Bangladesh Regional Protection Force (BANRPF) -5 in Juba, the capital of South Sudan on Saturday.
During the visit, Bangladesh Country Senior and Contingent Commanders briefed him on the overall situation in the mission area and various activities of Bangladeshi peacekeepers.
Chief of Army Staff gave his directives and exchanged views with the Bangladeshi peacekeepers there. He sincerely congratulated everyone for working with good reputation in South Sudan despite hundreds of adversities.
During his visit to UNMISS Force Headquarters, in presence of the Acting Force Commander Major General Md Main Ullah Chowdhury and military staff officers from different countries, the Force Chief of Staff and Chief Military Observer briefed General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed about the mission.
Bangladesh News Desk: At the end of the briefing, he inspected the headquarters facility and exchanged greetings with military officials from various countries.
On Saturday evening, the Chief of Army Staff visited the Bangladesh Navy Contingent, Bangladesh Force Marine Unit (BANFMU)-7 and exchanged greetings with them.
On Sunday, the Chief of Army Staff flew in with a UN aircraft to inspect the Bangladesh Infantry Battalion stationed at Wau, a city in South Sudan. He held a darbar for all the ranks of the contingent, gave directional speeches, and inquired about them.
The army chief later inaugurated the Bangladesh-South Sudan Friendship Youth Club built by Bangladeshi Battalion (BANBAT)-5. This club aims to turn the local South Sudanese youth into skilled manpower through various training initiatives.
Md Ali Goni, Minister of Culture and Youth Sports of South Sudan, Gabriel Susan, Director General of Sports and Robert, Director of Sports of the Club, and high officials of Bangladesh army were present at the inaugural function.
Sam Kurutaro Muhumure, head of office of Wau region, met with the Chief of Army Staff.
During the meeting, the head of office highly praised the Bangladesh Contingent deployed there and discussed various issues of the mission with the Chief of Army Staff.
General Shafiuddin, who is leading a 7-member delegation, is scheduled return to Bangladesh on February 23 after the official visit.
The Chief of Army Staff visit to South Sudan is expected to boost the mental strength among the Bangladesh peacekeepers and bolster the friendly bilateral ties between the two countries.
