Bangladesh News Desk: Bangladesh Police has gained the observer status of ASEAN National Police (ASEANAPOL).
The police was given the status at the 40th ASEANAPOL Conference held in Cambodia in March this year, said a press release signed by Md Kamruzzaman, assistant inspector general (media and public relations) of police on Wednesday.
To achieve the status, a specific platform has got created between Bangladesh Police and ASEANAPOL that will play an important role in combating cyber terrorism, militancy and organised crimes, said the press bulletin.
According to the press release, from now on, the members of Bangladesh Police will receive different trainings from the member countries of ASEANAPOL, along with a field of real time intelligence sharing to have been created.
The recognition of the status came as NCB Unit of Police Headquarters applied to the ASEANAPOL secretariat for it after being directed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed.
At present, nine organisations, including Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Bangladesh Police, are on the observer status of ASEANAPOL.
ASEANAPOL, which is an organisation, was founded in 1981 to combat and prevent international crimes.
