The government has appointed two consultants for the Western Economic Corridor and Regional Enhancement Programme Phase 1 project.
Doha Engineering Company Limited of Korea and Development Design Consultants Limited of Bangladesh have jointly received the contracts, and the cost for the consultancy is estimated at nearly Tk 60 crore.
A cabinet committee meeting on public purchase approved the proposal on Wednesday. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal chaired the meeting virtually.
The finance minister said a total of five proposals were tabled for approval.
“Among the procurement proposals, two were from the Ministry of Industries, one from the implementation monitoring and evaluation department, one from the local government department and one from the Ministry of Agriculture,” he said.
Of these, the cabinet committee approved four proposals, added the minister.
A total of Tk 492.47 crore will be spent for the four proposals. From the expenditure, the government will spend Tk 78.52 crore, and Tk 413.95 crore will be sourced from World Bank and local banks as loans.
After the meeting, Md Zillur Rahman Chowdhury, additional secretary to the cabinet, briefed about the proposals to reporters.
He said, “The government approved the proposal to appoint two consultants for the Western Economic Corridor and Regional Enhancement Programme Phase 1 project under the local government and engineering directorate. Jointly, Doha Engineering Company Limited of Korea and Development Design Consultants Limited of Bangladesh received the contracts.”
The cost of the consultancy is Tk 59.74 crore, he added.
