Bangladesh News Desk: A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Benapole border area in Jashore early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Rois Uddin, a BGB sepoy.
His body is on the Indian side of the border. BGB lodged a strong protest against the incident at a battalion commander-level flag meeting
Jashore-48 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Ahmed Hasan Jamil confirmed the death in a press release on Monday midnight.
“A BGB patrol team intercepted a group of cattle smugglers, who crossed into Bangladesh near Dhanyakhola Border Outpost (BOP) from India around 5:30am on Monday, said the press release.
“Chased by the BGB team, the smugglers tried to flee towards India. At one stage, Rois Uddin got disconnected from his team because of dense fog,” it added.
“He could not be found initially but later in the day it was learnt from different sources that he was injured in BSF firing and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in India,” the press release said.
“Immediately after the incident, a battalion commander level flag meeting was held and it was known that the soldier died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.”
