At least seven people, including two children and a newlywed bride, died Tuesday as a trawler carrying wedding guests sank in the River Meghna.
The accident took place at Noakhali’s Hatia on Tuesday afternoon when the wedding guests and a few other people were going to Manpura’s Kolatoli.
“A few passengers could swim ashore while several others went missing. Also, the identities of the deceased could not be known immediately,” Hatia Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Kanchan Kanti Das said.
“The trawler sank at 1pm, after hitting a shoal in Meghna, while heading to the groom’s house.”
“River Police recovered seven bodies with the support of locals and the fishermen. However, it remains unknown as to how many passengers exactly managed to swim ashore,” Kanchan Kanti said.UNB
