Bangladesh Tourism Research Institute (BTRI) will play an important role in research activities on tourism sector which is promoted by the initiative of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said Chairman of parliamentary standing committee on civil aviation and tourism ministry RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, MP.
He was speaking as chief guest during the inaugural session of BTRI, the first and foremost research institute on tourism in the country, held at the office of the institute at West Panthapath in the capital on Friday afternoon.
The chief guest said the country’s economic development is possible through the tourism industry. The young talents have been playing a magnificent role becoming entrepreneurs in different sector of the industry. But there is no research centre in the country for tourism industry which is very important. He welcomed the initiative of establishing the BTRI and hoped that by its research activities, training it will help to develop the industry and to make a tourism-friendly nation, which is dreamed by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman.
Joint Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Dr Md Mosharraf Hossain, Professor Dr Sufi Mustafizur Rahman, head of the Department of Archaeology, Jahangirnagar University, were the special guests.
Founder president of BTRI and Producer (Programme) of MY TV Kazi Rahim Shahriar, presided over the function where first vice-president of Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB), Shiblul Azam Quraishi; Bangladesh Tourism Employers Association (BTRI) chairman Shahidul Islam Sagar; International Culinary Institute director (training) Jahangir Alam; were also present. Executive director of BTRI Abu Rayhan Sarkar delivered welcome speech in the function.
Joint Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Dr Md Mosharraf Hossain has said the government has been working sincerely to turn Bangladesh as one of the attractive tourism destinations of the world. He said the government has taken a mega plan to boost the tourism sector and already has appointed consultants from home and abroad in this regard. In addition to that, government has implemented several projects to develop tourist spots. Through the implementation of the mega plan the door for the research activities on tourism sector will be opened. He hoped that as a private organisation BTRI would play a vital role in its respective field.
