The CPM Central Committee has given the green signal to form an alliance with the Congress against the BJP and the Trinamool Congress in the forthcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal. Although an understanding was made in the discussion, the final decision was taken by a vote. Eight members stayed away from voting. The Kerala unit supported the decision.
In Kerala, CPM will continue to oppose the Congress by heading the Left Democratic Front (LDF). However, the Central Committee has decided to co-operate with secular parties, including the Congress, against the BJP in Assam as well as in Bengal. In Tamil Nadu, it will cooperate with the Congress by remaining in the DMK-led alliance.
In Bengal, the way was paved for an electoral understanding with the Congress after the Kerala unit approved the cooperation. The Kerala unit had also supported the decision to join hands with the Congress to oppose the BJP and strengthen the party at the Politburo meeting yesterday. Source: Kaumudiglobal
