Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam and her father were severely injured after being attacked by some unidentified miscreants inside govt bungalow early Thursday.
According to police sources, she was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Misbahul Islam, Rangpur Pirganj UNO, also husband of the victim told BSS that with the initiative of the Public Administration Ministry and Bangladesh Air Force, Wahida has been flown to Dhaka by an air ambulance for better treatment.
Ghoraghat Thana OC Amirul Islam told BSS that, the attack took place at the government duckbungalow in Ghoraghat upazila around 2am yesterday, when the terrorists entered the bungalow with sharp weapons and hammers and attacked Wahida.
Being attacked, Wahida screamed for help, and when her father Amar Ali went the spot to rescue her, the miscreants stabbed him several times wounding him severely.
Other government employees and locals of the area rushed the spot hearing the shout and cry and rescued them, although the miscreants managed to flee the spot, said the official.
Upon receiving the news of the attack, Dinajpur-6 MP Shibli Sadiq, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mahmudul Alam and Superintendent of Police (SP) Anwar Hossain visited the spot.
Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Mahamudul Alam said, “I have visited the spot after hearing the news of the terrorist attack on the house of Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam… Necessary steps will be taken in this regard.”
Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Md Anwar Hossain told BSS that the CCTV footage of the victim’s house has been found.
Dinajpur DC, OC and intelligence officials have been looking into the matter to identify the attackers.
The cause behind the incident was not known immediately by the police.BSS
