BSS, Rangpur: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested the prime accused in the sensational murder case of newly elected Union Parisahd (UP) Member of Gaibandha from Panchpeer area in Boda upazila of Panchagarh Saturday night.
Commanding Officer (CO) of RAB-13 Commander Reza Ahmed Ferdous disclosed the information at a press briefing arranged at the battalion headquarters in Alamnagar area of the metropolis today.
The arrested person is Md Arif Mian, 33, son of Md Chhaiper Rahman of village Hat Lakshmipur in Sadar upazila of Gaibandha district.
He said Md Abdur Rouf was elected as a Member of Lakshmipur union parishad of Gaibandha Sadar upazila in the election held on November 11 last.
While returning home by a motorcycle with his friend from Hat Lakshmipur Bazar, miscreants seriously injured Abdur Rouf by chopping and mercilessly beating him with sharp weapons while crossing a local bridge at 10:30 pm on November 12 and fled the scene.
Local people and companions of Abdur Rouf immediately rushed him in critical conditions to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital where the attending physician declared him dead at 11 pm.
“A case was filed against the killers in connection with Gaibandha Sadar police station under sections 143/341/323/302/506/34 of the Criminal Procedure Code on November 13 last,” the RAB-13 CO said.
The elite force enforced intelligence activities following the sensational murder of the newly elected UP Member, started a shadow investigation into the case to nab the criminals involved and arrested the prime accused in the shorted possible time.
During primary interrogation, the arrested person admitted his direct involvement in murdering newly elected UP Member Abdur Rouf and elaborately narrated the whole episode of the sensation murder.
“We are continuing hectic efforts to nab the other absconding culprits involved with murder the newly elected UP member,” the RAB-13 CO said. The arrested person was handed over to Gaibandha Sadar police station today for taking further legal actions against him.
