Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan has been removed from his post for breaching discipline by making remarks about statement on Dr Muhammad Yunus.
The law ministry has issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday.
On Monday, Imran said he refrained from signing a statement prepared by the Attorney General’s Office protesting the recent letter from global figures to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the trial proceedings against Prof Muhammad Yunus.
The state lawyer also said he believes Nobel Laureate Dr Yunus is being subjected to “judicial harassment”.
“I agree with the statement issued by the Nobel laureates and world leaders about the trial proceedings against Prof Yunus. He (Prof Yunus) is a respected person who is being defamed and harassed,” he said.
Imran also said the Attorney General’s Office issued a notification asking signatures from the attorney general, additional attorney generals, deputy attorney generals and assistant attorney generals in order to issue a statement in protest against the statement issued by the global leaders. “I decided not to sign the statement to be prepared by the Attorney General’s Office,” he said.
