Dhaka Office: BNP Senior Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that the countrymen have lost their democratic rights to speak freely and exercise their franchise independently due to the unsolicited interference in determining Bangladesh’s political future.
Rizvi came up with the allegation while addressing a press conference held at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka on Monday.
Earlier on Saturday, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud held a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar on the sideline of the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement currently in Kampala, Uganda.
After the meeting, S Jaishankar in his X wrote, “So glad to meet my new Bangladesh counterpart FM Dr. Mohammed Hasan Mahmud in Kampala today. Congratulated him on his appointment and wished him all success. India-Bangladesh relations are growing from strength to strength. Look forward to receiving him in Delhi soon.”
Referring to the comments, Rizvi said, “S Jaishankar’s comment is partially true as the relationship between Awami League and India has deepened sans the people of Bangladesh. Consequently, the people here have lost their freedom of expression and voting rights.”
Describing the present government as fascist, Rizvi asserted that the Awami League-led administration has established absolute dominance on all state mechanisms.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is void of justice and she emerges as a treacherous authoritarian ruler after the 7 January national election. She has pushed the country towards inevitable destruction without taking lessons from the consequence of the autocratic ruler,” he said.
