BSS: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Railways has directed the authorities concerned to take steps immediately for the preservation of the historic Pahartali European Club in Chattogram which is intertwined with memories of Pritilata Waddedar, an associate of Master Da Surya Sen.
The direction was given by the committee at its 29th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here today with its chairman A B M Fazle Karim Chowdhury in the chair, a press release said.
The parliamentary watchdog also directed to take immediate measures to convert the wooden postal bungalow, located on the hill in Chattogram CRB into a Liberation War Memorial Museum within this month, the release added.
In the meeting, formulation of land management master plan of Bangladesh Railway, progress of conversion of Akhaura-Sylhet meter gauge railway line to dual gauge, progress of Sylhet-Sunamganj railway line construction project and progress of modernization of railway factory at Pahartali of Chattogram as well as Saidpur of Nilphamari were presented and discussed in detail.
The meeting discussed about the confirmation of the minutes of the last meeting and the progress of implementation of the decisions.
Committee members including Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan, Md Shafiqul Azam Khan and Gazi Mohammad Shahnawaz were present at the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, the Director General of Bangladesh Railways and the officials concerned of Parliament Secretariat.
