A Khulna court on Monday sent Shankar Chandra Bhuiya, former manager of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC), Khulna to jail in a case filed for embezzling Tk 7.43 crore.
Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order after rejecting his bail prayer in the case, said Khandaker Majibur Rahman, a counsel of Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to the prosecution, Shankar Chandra along with others embezzled 1529.29 mts jute products of Platinum Jublee Jute Mills worth Tk 7.43 crore when he was the manager of BJMC, Khulna from September 23, 2014 to May 29, 2015.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against three people including Shankarwith Khalishpur Police station in 2016.
On August 26, 2019, police submitted chargesheet against him.
Two other accused in the case are—General Manager of BJMC Jahangir Hossain (suspended) and former manager of Platinum Jute Mills Liakat Hossain.
Both of them secured bail in the case.UNB
