Political News Desk: The Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) observed a nationwide half-day hartal today to protest the soaring prices of edible oil, other essential commodities and utility services.
The shutdown began at 6am and continued until 12pm.
In the morning, the LDA strike supporters staged a procession at Dhaka University’s TSC area and later blocked the roads near Shahbag.
Saiful Haque, coordinator of the LDA, urged people of all walks of life to make the strike successful with their spontaneous support.
5 hurt as police charges baton on hartal supporters in Paltan
At least five people, including journalists, were injured as police charged baton on the procession of hartal supporters in Paltan area of the city on Monday.
The law enforcers used water cannon and teargas to disperse the activists as they blocked Paltan intersection.
On March 11 last, the LDA called a nationwide half-day hartal protesting the increasing prices of utility services and daily commodities such as edible oil, rice, lentil and onion.
