Legal notices have been sent to four people, including three secretaries, demanding formation of an independent commission to investigate allegations of criminal activities against the law enforcers.
Lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir served the notices on behalf of the 53 lawyers to the secretaries to Home Ministry, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Department, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The notice asked them to form ‘Police Complaint Investigation Commission’ in four weeks. Otherwise, a writ petition will be filed with the High Court seeking directives.
Asad Uddin, one of the 53 lawyers, said that there is no end to allegations against police. “Despite strict surveillance, criminal activities of police could not be controlled,” he said.
Again, it is also true that if any allegation of misconduct is found against any police member, it is being investigated. Measures such as transfer, withdrawal and suspension are also being taken but crime is not stopping.
