Mymensingh Free Day was observed amid festivity and enthusiasm here today.
On that day in 1971, freedom fighters freed the area from the clutches of Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators.
Muktijoddha Sangsad and District Administration jointly organized a week-long programme at Chotabazar Mukta Moncha to mark the day.
The week-long programme includes discussion, storytelling on Liberation War by the freedom fighters, cultural function and essay and drawing competition for the students.
Freedom fighter Nazim Uddin Ahamed MP formally inaugurated the week-long programme as the chief guest while Deputy Commissioner Md Mizanur Rahman was in the chair.
Additional divisional commissioner Nirvana Debnath, DIG of Police Barrister Harun or Rashid, general secretary of district unit of Awami League Advocate Muazzem Hossen, president of the city AL Ehtashemul Alam, secretary Mohitur Rahman Shanta and former Muktijoddha district commander Anwar Hossen, among others, were present.
Marking the day a discussion meeting will be held at 6pm at the same venue.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque will virtually join the discussion as chief guest.BSS
