There are strong claims that the cricketers are not comfortable with Domingo and a few other members of the coaching panel
UNB: Bangladesh Cricket Board will reach a decision on head coach Russell Domingo after receiving the evaluation report of the fact-finding committee on Bangladesh team’s below par performance in the T20 World Cup 2021.
Apart from the disappointing results, there are strong claims in the fraternity that the cricketers in the dressing room are not comfortable with Domingo and a few other members of the coaching panel.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan while talking with the media Saturday informed that he will personally run a separate investigation speaking to the key members of the team involving senior cricketers, management and members of the selection panel once the fact-finding committee submits its report.
Nazmul thinks it is necessary for him to speak to the key members of the national team given that the fact-finding committee could not find any drastic issues.
“We [the board] are still waiting for the report from the fact-finding committee. You are asking me these questions [on coach Domingo and issues in the team] because the team did not perform in the T20 World Cup. There were no such questions ahead of the T20 World Cup,” said the BCB boss at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“We will sit with the cricketers right after we receive the report. There are many players from the T20 World Cup squad who will not travel to New Zealand [for the Test series],” he added.
Though several media outlets have already reported on BCB extending contract for two years with Domingo ahead of the T20 World Cup, an official statement on it has come only for the first time with Nazmul speaking about it.
There is wide discussion that the BCB is strongly reconsidering its contract with the South African coach and looking for ways to avoid heavy compensation, which will need to be paid to Domingo for breaking the deal.
“Ahead of the T20 World Cup, Domingo had informed that he had a good job offer. He wanted to know if we will continue with him. He will take the new offer if we decide to not continue with him,” informed Nazmul.
“We honestly did search for a head coach but the ones we were looking for were not available. Then there was confusion from our end that if we really want to bring a new coach after the T20 World Cup as most of them are already appointed till the next T20 World Cup [scheduled from October-November 2022],” he added.
