A case filed under Narcotics Control Act against Pori Moni was handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of Police for further investigation.
UNB, Dhaka: Film actress Pori Moni and her associate Nazrul Islam Raj were the ringleaders of an organised crime gang, said Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of Legal and Media Wing of Rab, on Thursday.
He came up with the remarks while briefing reporters about Pori Moni’s arrest at its headquarters in the afternoon.
They carried out their activities in different posh areas of the capital, including Gulshan, Baridhara and Banani, targeting people from the affluent section of society and had been selling drugs in the name of holding parties or DJ parties.
“Pori Moni had a minibar at her home and it was often used as a venue for such parties,” said Rab Commander Moin.
A case was filed against Dhallywood actress Pori Moni under the Narcotics Control Act on Thursday following her detention on Wednesday.
Two more cases — one under the Narcotics Control Act and another under the Pornography Control Act—were filed against her associate Nazrul Islam Raj, owner of Raj Multimedia.
The elite force filed these cases with Banani Police Station, said the Rab official.
On Tuesday night, Rab arrested Sharful Hasan alias Mishu Hasan ,31, and his accomplice Md Masudul Islam alias Jishan, 39, along with firearms and huge stash of contraband items from Bashundhara Residential Area, he said.
The Rab spokesperson said the raids on the residence of Pori Moni and Raj were carried out based on specific information provided by Mishu and Jishan following their arrests.
During a preliminary interrogation, Pori Moni said she came to Dhaka when she was an HSC student and started her film career with the help of Raj, said the Rab official.
“Pori Moni became an alcoholic in 2016 and set up the minibar at her residence,” he added.
Raj said he arrived in Dhaka in 1989 after he passed Dakhil examinations from a Khulna madrasah and established Raj Multimedia Productions House in 2018.
However, Moin refused to draw a conclusion on their culpability before a thorough investigation.
Pori Moni, whose allegation of rape attempt on her by businessman Nasir U Mahmud and others prompted firestorm in the social media barely two months back, was detained from her Banani residence on Wednesday night.
The intelligence unit of Rab, led by Lt Col Khairul Islam, started a drive at her residence around 4 pm on the day and detained her after three hours of search.
A huge quantity of liquor was seized from her house, Rab sources said.
On the same night, the elite force members conducted another drive at the residence of Nazrul Islam Raj and detained him.

He said drug-related cases filed against Pori Moni and others accused including movie producer Nazrul Islam Raaz have been handed over to the DB as per the instructions of the DMP commissioner.
Anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police, in a joint drive, arrested much-talked-about film actress Porimoni from her Banani residence in the city on August 4.
“During over three-hour drive, a huge quantity of illegal drugs was seized from her house,” Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the RAB’s legal and media wing, told BSS.
