Shaheed Dweep remains completely cut-off from rest of the world due to zero BSNL network

John Wilbert & M Arun, Port Blair: Residents of Shaheed Dweep are going through a horrible time because of the total blackout of BSNL mobile network since last two days. Villagers who are at Port Blair, allege that due to zero network they are unable to make calls even in urgency related to Health Issues, fire or other emergencies.

Since last week residents of Shaheed Dweep were witnessing poor mobile network connectivity and for the last two days there is a total blackout of the BSNL mobile network.

Because of the zero connectivity, the residents of the Island and tourists are suffering heavily, they were unable to connect with their friends and family members said Mr. Rama Krishna, Ex Pradhan, Shaheed Dweep. While Tour Operators are unable to manage schedule for tourists, the visiting guests are finding it too difficult to connect to their tour operator and also with their family members in Mainland India.

When Andaman Sheekha contacted the Chief General Manager,BSNL, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr.Raja Ram Mohan, he said that the BSNL has complete knowledge about the issue that the people are facing in the Shaheed Dweep.

He said that on 19 November at 10:30 PM there was a heavy lightning due to which three Radio Links working for Shaheed Dweep from Port Blair got completely damaged. Since yesterday BSNL technicians visited the island to restore the connectivity but their efforts to restore the connectivity were futile.

Further he said that tomorrow some new equipment would be sent to Shaheed Dweep and he assured that the fault will be rectified by tomorrow. News courtesy Andaman Sheekha
