Bangladesh News Desk: Civil society organisation Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) expressed its doubt over the full transparency of the Election Commission search committee that was formed to formulate the next election commission.
Besides, the civil society body also has placed a 4-point charter of demands to the search committee.
The organisation, at a virtual press meet on Thursday, said the search committee did mention the names of the candidates, but it did not disclose the names of the proposers.
Badiul Alam Majumder, secretary of Shujan, stressed on the proper working procedure of the election commission search committee based on transparency and impartiality.
He also underscored to reveal the names of individuals, political parties and professional organisations in public, who have proposed names in the search committee.
Majumder also opined to publish work proceedings as reports for the commoners to know the working process in election commission formation.
The submitted proposals to the search committee are – informing the working procedure to people in order to restore transparency and impartiality; unveiling the names of the proposers alongside the names of the candidates and publishing a short list for public; finalising the list of 10 proposed people and make it public.
Among others, lawyer Shahdin Malik, environmental activist Syeda Rizwana Hasan Chowdhury, participated at the event.
