Teesta water rising, flood apprehended onrush of upstream water coupled with heavy rainfall pushed Teesta close to danger level.
Teesta water was flowing 7cm lower than the danger mark at barrage point at 9am which was 2cm lower at 6am on Monday.
Authorities have reportedly opened 44 gates of the barrage to control water.
Residents on the bank of the river are apprehending flood as roads of the deltaic lands have been inundated.
Water flow at Teesta Barrage was recorded at 52.8cm at 9am.
Overflowing of Teesta has made water to enter residential houses on the river banks and char lands in five upazilas of Lalmonirhat, causing untold sufferings of the inhabitants.
Md Asafuddowla, executive engineer of Dalia Water Development Board, said Teesta is flowing 7cm below the danger level.
Low-lying areas were inundated due to rise in Teesta 17 days ago affecting 3,000 families.
District administration distributed 300 metric tons rice and Tk 4 lakhs among the victims.
