Though all types of competitive crickets in Bangladesh remained suspended since March 26 due to the devastating coronavirus pandemic, the Bangladesh National Team’s coaches held regular virtual meetings with the players to make them morally and mentally stronger through their encouraging online communications.
This time Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is bringing former South Africa high-profile coach Garry Kirsten to their new virtual meeting with the players on Wednesday.
Kirsten, who coached India to the 2011 World Cup triumph on home soil, had been appointed by the BCB as a consultant to have overseen the selection of the head coach and its supporting staff.
Bangladesh had appointed Steve Rhodes as head coach in 2018 to fill the shoes of the successful head coach Chandika Hathurusingha as per his suggestion.
Even he played a vital role to help BCB appoint his compatriot Russell Domingo as the current head coach Russell Domingo and Carl Langervelt as fast bowling, who later switched to South Africa after a couple of months in Tigers’ stint.
Through its head coach Russell Domingo, who is Kirsten’s compatriot, the BCB is bringing this high-profile coach before the players connecting ‘Zoom Ultra Conversation’.
It is learnt that Kirsten has agreed to join the virtual meeting with the Tigers at the request of his compatriot Russell Doming, who is the current head coach of Bangladesh whose selection was overseen by Kirsten after the BCB’s mutual separation with the then head coach Steve Rhodes.
BCB director and its Cricket Operations Chairman Akram Khan confirmed the news to The Independent, stating that players will surely benefit from Kirsten’s virtual meeting.
“We’re bringing Gary Kirsten to our next virtual meeting with the players. Kirsten is an experienced and high profile coach who knows how to motivate players. We hope players will benefit from it during this moment of crisis,” Akram Khan said.
Following a lengthy coronavirus break, a string of the national and out of the national team’s players had begun individual practice at BCB’s designated facilities across the country amid the ongoing COVID-19.
Noteworthy, Bangladesh national team’s players have had a slew of virtual meetings with head coach Russell Domingo, Daniel Vettori, Ottis Gibson and Neil McKenzie during the crisis period of the coronavirus pandemic.
