Former Tollywood actor and now BJP MP Locket Chatterjee has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. However, her condition is not serious and she has kept herself in self-isolation.
A source close to the politician said: “She was having mild fever and decided to keep herself in self-isolation. The results came yesterday morning and we were informed that she has contracted the novel coronavirus. But no need to worry, she is doing fine. Her health condition is stable.”
Locket herself confirmed the news with a tweet from his official social media handle:
Before Locket emerged as one of Bengal’s rising political stars, she was a well-known face playing leading roles in a number of most-watched daily soaps and Bengali films like Kapurush Mahapurush, Chora Bali, Obhishopto Nighty, Kiriti Roy to name a few. She had made her film debut with Ektu Chhoa (2002).
In 2012, Chatterjee had joined the TMC, and served a key role in the state women’s commission. But the stint didn’t last two long and in 2015 she joined the BJP. Two years later, Locket started to lead the BJP’s women’s wing in West Bengal.
Now, she has been made state BJP general secretary, while Kolkata-based fashion designer Agnimitra Paul has replaced her to lead BJP’s Mahila Morcha.
