Community News Desk: The namaz-e-janaza of three UN peacekeepers, who were killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Central African Republic, was held at Army Aviation Hangar of Dhaka Cantonment on Saturday.
Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, senior officials of Dhaka Cantonment and members of all ranks attended the janaza. At this time, the Chief of Army Staff laid wreaths in honour of the slain peacekeepers.
Later, the bodies of the army personnel were sent to their respective villages (Brahmanbaria, Sirajganj and Nilphamari) by Army Aviation helicopters and there the deceased were buried in full military honour.
On October 4, three Bangladeshi United Nations (UN) peacekeepers were killed and one other critically injured when their vehicle was blasted by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Central African Republic.
The deceased were soldier Jashim Uddin, 31, hailed from Brahmanbaria, Jahangir Alam, 26, hailed from Nilphamari and Sharif Hossain, 26, hailed from Sirajganj.
The bodies of the deceased soldiers arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday. So far 129 Bangladeshi soldiers have lost their lives in the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
Despite risking their lives, the peacekeepers of the Bangladesh Army are maintaining the highest professionalism in peacekeeping operations in 8 African countries.
Bangladesh is in the top position as a country that sends peacekeepers to the United Nations.
