Ahmadul Kabir, Malaysia: Malaysia’s immigration police have detained as many as 530 migrants, including 94 Bangladeshi nationals.
Among other detainees, 277 are citizens of Myanmar, 72 of India, 39 of Indonesia, 15 of Nepal, nine of Sri Lanka, and six of Pakistan.
They were detained in drives in Seri Kembangan Wholesale market of Selangor state early Saturday, Selangor Immigration Director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said in a statement.
He said they will examine whether the detainees have valid documents to stay in the country.
However, Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said 10 illegal trading licenses were seized from the held migrants on information provided by the city council and locals.
