A total of 89 public representatives were suspended temporarily so far for their alleged irregularities in cash aid disbursement and relief distribution for destitute people since detection of the country’s first coronavirus (Covid-19) case.
Local Government Division (LGD) issued a notification today suspending Jamal Hossain, member of ward number 3 of Taindang Union Parishad (UP) under Matiranga Upazila in Khagrachhari and Purnima Rani Banik, member (reserved) of Lawraftehpur UP under Nabinagar upazila in Brahmanbaria over irregularities in prime minister’s cash aid programme and relief distribution.
A total of 29 UP chairmen, 54 UP members, a zila parishad member, four municipality councilors and one upazila vice-chairman were suspended so far.
The two suspended UP members have also been served separate show-cause notices to reply within 10 working days why they would not
be suspended permanently.BSS
