Bangladesh News Desk: Kashem Sharif, former president of Niko’s Bangladesh office, has been sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment for taking a car, worth more than one crore taka, as bribe.
Judge ASM Ruhul Imran of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-2 handed down the verdict on Monday (March 28).
He was also fined Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer six months more in prison.
However, the main accused in the case, former state minister for energy and mineral resources AKM Mosharraf Hossain, was kept out of judgement due to his demise.
Kashem Sharif is a dual citizen of Bangladesh and the United States. The court issued an arrest warrant against him for being absconding at the time of the verdict.
