In Kantabanji in Odisha’s Balangir district, villagers carried the body of a man through waist-deep water to bid him one final adieu.
Mohammad Suffian, Bhubaneswar: At a time when reports of even near and dear ones abandoning the bodies of loved ones and staying away from cremation fearing coronavirus, an incident from Odisha has come to light where villagers waded through waist-deep water to perform the last rites of a local.
In Kantabanji in Balangir district, villagers carried the body of a man through waist-deep water to bid him one final adieu.
Normal life was sent out of gear in the Kantabanji area after it was submerged underwater due to the incessant rains on Thursday. The deluge even caused a severe disruption in vehicular movement as the area was flooded.
It was in such challenging circumstances that the body of a man was taken for the last rites along the road near Kurli on the State Highway 42 that was filled with water.
The incident has tugged at the hearts of many and brought appreciation for the people of Kantabanji.
In a similar incident, four journalists came forward to cremate the body of a man who died of coronary artery disease in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
