Tripura News Desk: To celebrate Basanta Utsav or spring festival a colourful procession was organised on Sunday afternoon in Tripura’s capital Agartala by cultural organization, Sanskriti Sansad.
Hundreds of cultural activities alongside singers, painters, musicians, poets, writers, and dancers from various cultural organizations participated in the procession which started from the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan area and culminated at the Umakanta Academy, where a colorful program was also organised in the evening.
Spring festival is celebrated in the form of Holi by smearing color dust and has its mention in old epics dating back to the time of emperor Harsha Vardhan. It also became popular under Rabindranath Tagore and is still in practice at Shantiniketan according to the organiser Debasish Bhattacharji.
Meantime, Sanghamitra Nandi, a renowned painter and former student of Shantiniketan said that the main aim of the festival is to encourage fraternity and brotherhood among all.
