BSS, Dhaka: Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md Shafiqul Islam on Saturday said that all the intelligence agencies are relentlessly monitoring activities of militants.
“Militants are active in the cyber world. Some militant groups are calling people to fight for Taliban in Afghanistan through the Cyber World,” he said.
Addressing a press briefing at Dhanmondi Road No. 32, Shafiqul said the Indian intelligence personnel arrested some people trying to go to Afghanistan on foot or by road.
The DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit continues to monitor the activities of militants in the cyber world through cyber patrolling, he said.
The DMP commissioner said people will have to follow health guidelines while entering the Dhanmondi Road No 32 for paying homage to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tomorrow.
He said August is a month of curse for the Bangalee nation as killers brutally killed Bangabandhu, Bangamata and most of his family members on August 15, 1975.
“Not only the Father of the Nation and his family were killed in August, grenade attack was also carried out on August 21 to make Awami League leaderless,” Shafiqul Islam said.
He said every person who will come to pay homage to Bangabandhu’s portrait at Dhanmondi 32 would be checked through the archway and the check post to ensure security while entering the venue.
“None will be allowed to enter the venue as long as the Prime Minister is in the venue. The Bangabandhu Museum and Banani graveyard will be brought under CCTV coverage and we will sweep these two venues with DMP’s dog squad,” the commissioner said.
He said in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, a security tire was ensured across the capital to observe the National Mourning Day with due dignity and peacefully across, as many political organizations are set to hold doa mahfils to mark the day.
Regarding wearing of masks by visitors, he said, “Those of you who will come to pay homage to the Father of the Nation must wear masks in accordance with the health guidelines.”
“None will be allowed to enter the venue without wearing a mask. Visitors will have to leave the venue after paying tributes as soon as possible,” Shafiqul Islam added.
Additional Commissioners of DMP Krishna Pad Roy, AKM Hafeez Akter and CTTC chief Md Asaduzzaman, joint commissioners, deputy commissioners and other senior officers were present.
