UNB: As all modes of transportation came to a halt ahead of the BNP’s divisional rally in Barishal, dedicated activists and supporters reached the rally venue by boat, raft, bicycle, on foot and even by floating on drums on Saturday.
Though the rally began around 11 am at the city’s Bangabandhu Udyan, around 3 pm a group of BNP leaders and activists reached Barishal boat terminal to join the rally.
One of them, Md Rony said, “They have shut movement of all transports so that we can’t join the rally. But we had to made the rally a success by any means.”
Another activist Shawon said finding no other means seven of us decided to reach by floating on drums.
“Have seen another activist swimming through Kirtankhola River to reach the venue,” he said.
The activist said they will leave no stone unturned to make the movement for establishing democracy a success.
Tens of thousands of opposition BNP activists and leaders joined the divisional rally in Barishal city on Saturday demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and national election under a non-party neutral government.
The crowd spilled out onto the surrounding roads– 1.5 km off the venue, said locals.
