NE NOW NEWS: After the Assam Government stated that only three persons were killed in police firing during the anti-CAA protests in the state, Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has accused the government of hiding data on the entire agitation.
Speaking to the media Akhil Gogoi said that he had asked for the data on the deaths during the anti-CAA protests but the government did not provide accurate data on it.
He alleged that the government had only listed three official deaths whereas there were five deaths.
Gogoi claimed that the government is either denying two deaths or is trying to hide the actual figures.
He also added, “The answers which were given by the Chief Minister hid the figures of the number of people injured during the protests.”
“Even the martyrs are being deprived of the compensation. The government in the reply said that there were no provisions for compensation for the people killed during the protests”, he added.
The Home Department on Monday said that three persons were killed in police firing during the protests in Assam.
The department did not name the persons killed in police firing. However, the department mentioned another death due to bullet injuries but claimed that it was not known if the person was killed in police action.
