SMITA BHATTACHARYYA: A WhatsApp message doing the rounds lately is that the letter C has shot into prominence in the year 2020.
To the list which begins with cough, cold, containment, confinement, Coronavirus, Covid19, cemetery, cremation…add coaching and charity.
And a group of students has come together from across the country to clear the concepts of students of Classes 11 and 12 – all for a cause.
Shreya Borthakur, a student of the Life Science department of Tezpur University, who belongs to Jorhat, said the fee was only Rs 100 for 10 days and later anybody could pay between Rs 50 to Rs 400, the proceeds of which would all go to the victims of Assam’s flood or Covid19.
“We are mostly students and also a few faculty members from reputed colleges like Pragya Academy here and NIT, Silchar. The five-day tuitions would be for NEET aspirants and those in Classes 11 and 12 Boards,” she said.
Ramanuj Goswami and Saurav P., faculty members of Pragya Academy, will teach Physics and Chemistry, respectively and Saddam Hussain, a teacher at NIT Silchar, will take care of Maths.
Students and interns, drawn from different medical colleges and hospitals, including AIIMS, DDU, Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH), IISER, Bhopal and Tezpur University are some other institutes, who have also volunteered to teach.
“Students from all over the country can register and send in their queries through WhatsApp,” Shreya said.
“All answers will be given online and our posters with names, photos, qualification of the teachers and phone numbers for registration have been uploaded on social media platforms,” Shreya further said.
Shreya, whose brainchild is this, said the money would be given to charity, divided between those who have suffered due to floods and those who have been victims of Covid19.
