Community News Desk: Abida Islam, the Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico, has received the ‘Rio Branco Order’ from the Ambassador of Brazil in Bangladesh, João Tabajara Jr.
The Brazilian Ambassador along with other officials from the Brazilian embassy handed over the crest of ‘Rio Branco Order’ and a certificate at a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (June 7).
After receiving the award, Abida said, “Finally, after four years, I have been honoured to receive the prestigious award titled the ‘Order of Rio Branco’ from the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil for my contributions as Director General (Americas) to further strengthening the bilateral relationship between our two friendly nations.”
Abida Islam is a career foreign service officer who belongs to the 15th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre. She served in various capacities in Bangladesh Missions in London, Colombo, Brussels, and Kolkata.
Islam obtained her Master’s degree in Sociology from Dhaka University and also another Master’s in Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University, Australia.
