Community News Desk: Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Monday paid tributes to the 1952 language martyrs through probhat ferry and placing wreaths at a Shahid Minar, at the chancery.
The national flag was hoisted at half mast. A special prayer was held seeking divine blessings for the martyrs. One minute silence was held in memory of the martyrs.
Bangladesh High Commissioner in New Delhi Muhammad Imran led the probhat ferry.
State Minister for Foreign Afairs Md. Shahriar Alam, Central Leaders of Awami League, Members of the Parliament, Officers, staff and family members of the mission participated in the probhat ferry.
The Ekushe elegy “Amar Bhaiyer Rakte Rangano Ekushe February” was sung at the parade along the chancery premises, said a press release of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam and the High Commissioner led the mission in placing wreaths at the Shahid Minar at the mission’s premises.
Then, the State Minister and the High Commissioner and officers also placed flowers with on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In his remarks Shahriar Alam remembered the supreme sacrifices made by the language heroes of 1952. He paid homage to Father of the Nation.
He said that the recognisation of the mother language as an International Mother Language is the result of the historic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu.
High Commissioner Muhammad Imran said the UNESCO declared February 21 as International Mother Language Day in 1999 thanks to efforts made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He also praised the historic role of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to establish our mother language as a state language.
The High Commissioner said now its very important for us to make our young generation conversant with our rich and proud history, our heroes, the culture and heritage.
The mission’s officers read out the messages from President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam.
Awami League lawmakers Ashim Kumar Ukil, Pankaj Debnath, Ashek Ullah Rafique, Manoranjan Gopal and Abida Mita, and Awami League Central Leader Shammi Ahmed also present at the event.
The message of President was read out by Md. Nural Islam, Deputy High Commissioner, and Prime Minister was read out by Shaban Mahmood, Minister (Press).
A cultural programme performed by different countries was held in the evening. A documentary was also screened on international mother language day.
The programme was attended by number of Ambassadors, diplomats, local elites, media personalities.
