BSS, Dhaka: Bangladeshi peacekeepers have been providing traffic security at the United Nations Organisation Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).
The Rapid Deployment Battalion (BANRDB)-4 of the Bangladesh Army deployed in the Northern Sector has been conducting the security operation from August 7, 2021, said a press release.
The infiltration of rebel armed forces has been taking place in the past few weeks in the Irumu territory of Ituri province.
In this situation, the Governor of Ituri Province requested the Force Commander and the Northern Sector Commander to provide convoy escort and security to all the general public.
Following this, from August 7, 2021, BANRDB-4 in Northern Sector started operating convoy escort for the safety of all vehicles and public transport from Commando to Luna and from Commando to Mambalenga.
At the same time, the Force Intervention Brigade continued to provide security on the connecting road.
Despite the ambush of the rebels in remote areas with various adverse conditions, the peacekeepers of Bangladesh continue to travel and ensuring security from Commando to Luna with the escorts of more than a hundred civilian vehicles every day, which has been greatly appreciated in the military and civilian spheres.
MONUSCO, based on French name, was established by the United Nations Security Council in resolutions 1279 (1999) and 1291 (2000) of the United Nations Security Council to monitor the peace process of the Second Congo War.
A total of 1742 Bangladeshi peacekeepers including 1355 Army have been deployed in the Mission, the release said.
