NE NOW NEWS: The West Tripura district court, on Monday, granted bail to Tripura Rajya Sabha MP – Jharna Das Baidya and three other Left women leaders.
The Left women leaders were granted bail by the Court on condition of personal bond of Rs 30,000 each.
Notably, the police had filed an assault case against the leaders after a protest in June last year.
“The police tried to hide their mistake by registering a fake assault case against these women leaders,” advocate Bhaskar Debbarma, representing the accused leaders said.
Notably, the four women leaders of the Left parties were booked under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The Left Front-backed All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) had held a protest in Agartala on June 1 last year.
The protest was organised by the Left parties demanding the Tripura government to take steps to stop violence against women in the state.
“The ruling BJP organises political programs across the state when and wherever they wish to. But opposition leaders are arrested for organising any peaceful movement,” Tripura rajya Sabha MP Jharna Das Baidya said.
