Tripura News Desk: The last financial year-2021-2022 ended yesterday but a number of departments of the state have not been able to spend or utilize the funds allocated to them as per budget provision and this has happened at a time when the state government is burdened with a huge loan and interest payment liability as well as a looming crisis. The quantum of unspent money in various departments has come to the fore in the replies to queries tabled in the just-concluded session of the state assembly.
More than Rs 600 crores have remained unspent in various departments.
According to information tabled in the state assembly session Rs 335.13 crores have remained unspent in the home department alone till March 15 this year and for the remainder of the month no big amount could not have been spent. Similar is the condition in the PWD department where Rs 295.47 crores could not be spent from the sanctioned amount till the date mentioned in the assembly. In the sports and youth programme department Rs 3.41 crores remained unspent. In the revenue department also Rs 67. 14 crores could not be spent. Similar is the picture in several other departments also.
Official sources in the administration said that delayed sanction of funds from Centre on many heads was the main reason for large amounts remaining unspent. They said that by the end of the financial year and especially by April 10 when many departments are allowed to close their accounts the spending will be complete with a little remaining unspent. They described it as a recurring problem from year to year.
